About Emerald
Emerald is the green variety of beryl, a beryllium aluminium silicate coloured by chromium and sometimes vanadium. Colour is the dominant value factor, judged on hue, tone and saturation. Most emerald contains inclusions, traditionally called the jardin, which are accepted as part of the character of the stone. You can read more via gemmological reference, mineral data.
Emerald requires an unusual pairing: beryllium, which is rare in the crust, must meet chromium or vanadium, which normally occur in entirely different rock types. That geochemical accident happens only where tectonic activity forces the two together, which is why emerald deposits are few and widely scattered.

Popular Uses
Emerald is used across fine jewellery, from solitaire rings to pendants and earrings. Because it is more included than corundum, protective settings such as bezels are often preferred for pieces that will be worn frequently. Specimens like this are collected and displayed rather than set into jewellery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big is this specimen?
It measures 10.7 x 9.8 x 7.8 mm and weighs 5 carats. Those figures were taken from this piece, so use them rather than judging scale from the photographs.
How should I clean this raw crystal?
Use a soft brush and warm soapy water to gently remove dust from the crystal faces. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.
Is this specimen suitable for a display cabinet?
Yes, raw mineral specimens are best displayed in well-lit cabinets away from direct sunlight to preserve the appearance. Ensure it is placed on a stable surface where it will not roll or fall.
What hardness does this mineral have?
Beryl sits high on the hardness scale, making the crystal robust against everyday handling. Even so, take care not to knock it against other hard minerals in your collection.
How does this compare to cut gemstones?
Unlike cut stones meant for jewellery, this specimen preserves the original geological context and crystal habit. It allows you to study the natural growth habits of the mineral species up close.
How long does delivery take, and can I return it?
We contact you directly as soon as your order is placed to arrange delivery, so you always know where the parcel is. Returns are accepted within 7 days of the date you receive the item.
Are your stones natural, or are any of them synthetic?
Everything we sell is 100% natural. We do not deal in synthetic or laboratory-grown material, and we do not hide anything about a piece: the photographs are shot to show every detail, including the ones a seller might prefer you did not see.
Will I receive the specimen in the photographs?
Yes. Each specimen is listed on its own and the photographs were shot from this exact piece. Once it sells the listing comes down.
