About Sunset Tourmaline
Sunset tourmaline is a trade name for elbaite in the warm orange, peach and pinkish-orange range, and for bicoloured stones that run from orange into pink along the crystal. The colour comes from manganese, in the same way as rubellite but at a different concentration. You can read more via gemmological reference, mineral data.
Like the other elbaite colours it grows in granitic pegmatites, where the chemistry of the pocket can change while the crystal is still growing and produce banded colour along its length.
